Non-profit idea - Family Giving Tree (RFID System)

FGT fulfills the exact holiday wish and provides backpacks filled with school supplies to the neediest children in the Bay Area. They ‘adopt’ 300+’ social service agencies that serve these children, and create wish cards and send them out to 1000+ businesses and organizations so their employees, customers, and students can provide the specific gifts. During the holidays, they serve a wider community including homeless adults and seniors. Once gifts are delivered to its borrowed warehouse, roughly 70,000 gifts have to be manually sorted out.

At Opportunity Hack, FGT would like to build a more automated system (ex. bar code, RFID system, etc.) to facilitate the sorting process.

If you'd like to be part of the team hacking for this idea, make sure to be present at the team formation session on the morning of the hackathon after each nonprofit has pitched their problem.
